Europe has been forced to confront its biggest migrant crisis since World War II over the past few years as millions of people fled war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. A 2016 EU-Turkey deal slashed the number of people landing in Greece but Libya has become a key departure point for migrants risking their lives to cross the Mediterranean.
